About Us

Aims of the Club:

We aim to provide a wide and varied programme of walks throughout the year, designed to appeal to walkers of all abilities and different levels of fitness.

Walking Groups

Bury HF consists of TWO formal walking groups and an ad hoc group which meets on the second Thursday

of the month  Members are entitled to walk with either, and both, of the  groups below:

Tuesday Group:

The walk secretary is Trevor Lunness (‭07960 077230)

Some of these walks are classed as ‘difficult’ and are usually between 10 miles and 15miles in length

or may include significant ascent.

Saturday Group:

The walk secretary is Christine Wellings (01204 77 8757)

The group meet at Tenters Street (Law Courts) car park leaving promptly at 13.00. The programme offers an amble of approximately 3–4 miles once a month and a walk of approx 6 miles three times each month.  You might like to consider taking a snack and a drink.

Footpath Officer

Our Footpath Officer is Robert Hargreaves. If you wish to report a blocked right of way or dangerous stile etc you can contact Robert by email at  roberthhargreaves@gmail.com or phone him on 079 41 22 57 05. Please include if possible photographs and a grid reference of the location of the issue.

Car Passengers:

As a club, we encourage members to car share. An appropriate contribution towards fuel costs should be agreed between the driver and the passenger. The currently suggested amount is 20p per mile.

Suitable clothing and footwear is essential for all of our walks. You are advised to take a packed lunch (except Saturday) and a drink with you.

The meeting times in Bury (at Tenters Street and Belle Vue Terrace) apply to the Saturday and Sunday groups. The Tuesday group meets at the start of the walk.

Dogs are not permitted on any of our walks.

Subscriptions:

The annual subscription is £5. You would be most welcome to come along on two or three walks, after which, should you decide to join us, we would expect you to pay the subscription.

Annual subscriptions are due following the AGM, which is held in March.

Safety on Walks:

A public liability policy covers the club. The policy does not cover personal accidents which may occur on walks.

Members participate on any club walk entirely at their own risk. The club and the leaders cannot be held responsible for loss or damage to personal property or for any injury, however caused.

Walkers should not walk ahead of the walk leader, unless this has been agreed.

Please email secretaryburyhfwalkingclub@gmail.com to get in touch if you would like any further general information about the club or would like to join.  If you would like to know more about a particular Walking Group or walk from the programme, please contact the appropriate GROUP SECRETARY.
